In 2009, Maine lawmakers passed a marriage equality law that was quickly overturned by voters. Now, gay rights activists have collected the 100,000 signatures necessary to bring marriage equality to a vote in November.

I’ll just file this under “things I can’t talk to my mother about even if I’d love to tell her to go freaking vote for it omg.” But she’s quite homophobic and I’m not out to her yet and it’s such a mess. I have enough trouble trying to get her to vote Democrats into office.
