Oh, Mister. |
A blog dedicated to discussing sexism in media, fandom, poetry, and the advancement of socialist propaganda. Basically, I just roll this way. |
Anonymous asked: There are people with prejudice against men, but it is not sexism for all the reasons you stated. Just like there are prejudice against whites, but like you said their roots come from racism/descrimination.
Yeah. Sexism, racism, etc. are products of the power+privilege equation, meaning for example that a man can be sexist because he has both societal power and societal privilege over women; a woman cannot be sexist because she lacks both societal power and societal privilege over men. A woman can be prejudiced against men, but she cannot be sexist towards them. A POC can be prejudiced against white people, but they cannot be racist towards them. And so on.
By and large, those prejudices stem from the institutionalized -isms that effect marginalized people every single day. A woman might be prejudiced against men because she has experienced decades of horrible sexism, for instance. I make it a point to never hold those prejudices against anyone.
But yeah, sexism/racism/etc. it sure as hell is not.
